We want everybody to feel at home at Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam

Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, home of ITA, is your home too. Whoever you are, wherever you come from and whatever you have come to see: here you may be yourself. We believe that theatre exists precisely because people differ from one another. And that our auditoriums are the richer when they are filled with all the stories, backgrounds and perspectives that people bring with them.

How we treat one another

We treat one another with respect, whoever you are: regardless of background, skin colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability. Discrimination, racism, intimidation and aggression have no place here: not towards other visitors, not towards our artists and not towards our staff. If someone crosses that line, we speak to them about it, and if necessary we intervene.

Room for difference

A production may unsettle you, move you and make you think. You do not have to agree with what you see on stage, with someone else's opinion or with us. We cherish that plurality of voices. But the freedom to think differently ends where you take it away from someone else. Persuading is fine; putting someone under pressure or forcing your view on them is not. We are alert to that.

House rules

To keep your visit and that of others enjoyable, we have a few rules. Arrive on time: once the show has started we often cannot let you in, and no refund is then possible. Being on time is your own responsibility. These and other rules for visitors are set out in our general terms and conditions. They are based on the General Visitor Conditions of the VSCD (the Dutch association of theatre and concert hall directors).

We also ask you to be considerate of the people around you. Do not photograph or film other visitors, our actors or our staff without their permission, do not disturb one another during the show by talking or using your phone, and in an emergency always follow the instructions of our audience services staff.
