We are ITA
ITA is the world-renowned Amsterdam-based theatre company under the artistic direction of Eline Arbo, creating productions that can be seen at our home venue, throughout the Netherlands and around the world. But we are more than that. We are artistic pioneers shaping the future, socially engaged programme makers and creative enablers. We are everyone on stage and behind the scenes at Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.
ITA produces
Every year, we create at least four new productions for major stages and revive around eight to ten successful ITA Productions. We perform at Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam and tour throughout the Netherlands and internationally.
Since 2026, we have opened our Studio for a yearly small-scale production. Through this Studio production, we give talented emerging artists the opportunity to develop their practice and make their voices heard.
ITA programs
In addition to productions by ITA’s ensemble, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam is a receiving house that presents around 350 performances each year by leading Dutch and international theatre and dance companies. We have a long-standing history with some of these companies, while every year we also introduce new artists who are more than ready to take their first step onto a major stage. The entire programme at Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam is curated by ITA’s programmers and programme makers.
ITA curates
Every year, we proudly present two festivals of our own. With Festival Lieve Stad, we celebrate Amsterdam in all its cultural diversity, together with partners including De Meervaart. During Festival Brandhaarden, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam becomes an artistic hub for international artists and perspectives.
In the summer, we curate a colourful, thought-provoking and exciting programme around Pride.
The Bookshop is our artistic fringe: an intimate venue on Leidseplein and a soft-pink space for reflection, encounters, experimentation and the unexpected.
ITA deepens & enriches
Alongside our productions and wider programme, we present contextual programmes that connect their themes to the times in which we live. These include introductions, post-show talks, workshops, guided tours and educational programmes. Every year, we welcome more than 10,000 school students.
