Festivals
Throughout the year, Amsterdam's Stadsschouwburg becomes the beating heart of a range of festivals
During these festivals, the auditoriums, foyers and Leidseplein come alive with artists, companies and audiences from the Netherlands and around the world.
ITA initiates Festival Brandhaarden and Festival Lieve Stad, and co-produces Julidans. Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam also hosts renowned festivals such as Holland Festival and Nederlands Theater Festival, welcoming thousands of visitors every year.
Festival Brandhaarden
Festival Brandhaarden is ITA's international theatre festival. Every year we put a leading and striking international voice, movement or house centre stage, with shows, introductions, post-show talks and masterclasses. Previous editions featured Katie Mitchell, Milo Rau, the Münchner Kammerspiele, Édouard Louis, Marlène Monteiro Freitas and Theater Vidy-Lausanne, among others.
Festival Lieve Stad,
Festival Lieve Stad, is our city festival, which we organise together with de Meervaart, celebrating the global city of Amsterdam in all its diversity and creativity. We do so with makers from the city and with productions that put the challenges of a world city centre stage.
The name Lieve Stad, refers to the farewell letter of mayor Eberhard van der Laan, who addressed his city with "Lieve Amsterdammers" and asked it to take good care of one another and of the city. Those words became a slogan for the whole city. They express what the festival wants to be: a declaration of love to Amsterdam and of care for its future.
ITA Pride
During ITA Pride, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam opens its doors every year. For special shows, Bookshop programmes, an exciting exhibition and encounters.
Under the banner celebrate yourself & celebrate the other we invite you to really see other people, to celebrate love in all its forms, to speak your desires, to dance deep into the night and to celebrate the freedom that everyone should be able to feel.
Julidans
Julidans is the international festival for contemporary dance. ITA has been connected to the festival as a co-producer and partner for years. Together we bring the most exciting and most distinctive work from the international dance world to Amsterdam. The shows take place at the Stadsschouwburg and in many other places in the city.
Holland Festival
The Holland Festival is the largest international performing arts festival in the Netherlands. Every June the festival brings boundary-pushing work from all over the world to the city.
We are proud that the Stadsschouwburg has been the festival's vibrant heart for decades. During the festival a number of the shows can be seen at the theatre, and there are many talks and events in the building.
Nederlands Theater Festival
At the Nederlands Theater Festival every autumn, the best productions of the past theatre season can be seen once more. The official jury selection brings together the most outstanding productions. Over a period of two weeks, most of the selected main-stage productions can be seen at the Stadsschouwburg. The closing Gala van het Nederlands Theater also traditionally takes place in the Grote Zaal.
Summer Dance Forever
Summer Dance Forever is the international festival for urban dance, with battles, shows and workshops. It brings the world's best in hip-hop, breaking and house to Amsterdam. During Summer Dance Forever the large auditoriums of the Stadsschouwburg turn into buzzing arenas filled with dance lovers from the Netherlands and abroad.
