Everyone is welcome
We want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy a visit to Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. That is why we do everything we can to make our building, our shows and our services as accessible as possible.
Whether you use a wheelchair, have difficulty walking, need hearing support or have a non-visible disability: below you will find information about the facilities available during your visit. You can view this website in a low-stimulus mode and adjust the text size. You will find an icon for this in the menu.
Amsterdam's museums and theatres work together for an accessible cultural sector. A set of accessibility icons has been developed for this purpose. On this page you will find a handy overview of which accessibility facilities Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam does and does not have.
Are you visiting in a wheelchair or do you have limited mobility?
Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam is easily accessible for wheelchair users. We have lifts, adapted toilets and wheelchair accessible seating in our auditoriums. Seats are also available for companions. Wheelchair accessible seating is booked through the box office.
For visitors who are less mobile it is worth knowing that the route from the lift to the Rabozaal is longer than to the other auditoriums. Do you need help with this? Let us know and we will be glad to think it through with you.
For safety reasons, mobility scooters are not permitted in the auditoriums. For getting around inside the building you can borrow a wheelchair.
Do you have a hearing impairment?
An assistive listening system is available in our auditoriums. It sends the sound of the show directly to compatible hearing aids. You can collect a wireless receiver from the desk in the information hall before the show.
In addition, shows regularly have surtitles. International shows are usually surtitled in Dutch. For shows by the ITA ensemble we often offer English surtitles on Thursdays and Saturdays.
When booking tickets you can see which seats offer a good view of the surtitles.
Do you have a non-visible disability?
ITA is a member of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower. If you wear a Sunflower lanyard, our staff know that you may need extra support during your visit.
Are you coming with a companion?
Do you have an OV-Begeleiderskaart (public transport companion card)? On presentation of the card you may bring one companion to the show free of charge. Book your seats through the box office.
Parking with a disabled parking permit
Do you have a European disabled parking permit or a national parking exemption? Then you can use the parking arrangements that apply in the City of Amsterdam. For visitors from outside Amsterdam, a day pass is available through Cition Parkeermanagement.
Quiet and prayer room and nursing room
We are currently working on creating a quiet and prayer room and a separate nursing room. We hope to make this available soon.
