The Philip Loubser Foundation and ITA share a conviction: talent needs space, time and trust in order to develop. That is why we work together on programmes that give directors the chance to deepen their artistic practice, gain international experience and develop within one of Europe's leading theatres.
The partnership focuses on the development of both promising new makers and established directors with international ambitions. In doing so, the Philip Loubser Foundation contributes to the future of theatre, both on and off the stage.
Ibsen Artist in Residency for directors with international ambition
An important part of the partnership is the Ibsen Artist in Residence programme. It offers internationally leading directors the opportunity to build a close artistic relationship with ITA over a number of years and to develop new productions. Robert Icke and Eline Arbo were Ibsen Artist in Residence at ITA in the past. Rebecca Frecknall is currently ITA's Ibsen Artist in Residence.
The Ibsen Artist in Residence receives support for artistic development and creates new productions with the ITA company. This creates room for depth, experiment and lasting artistic collaboration.
International Ibsen Fellowship for emerging talent
Alongside its support for established makers, the Philip Loubser Foundation also invests in a new generation of directors.
Together with ITA, the foundation set up the International Ibsen Fellowship. This multi-year fellowship offers promising directors the opportunity to develop further, gain international experience and learn to work at the scale of large theatre productions.
The fellows work closely with ITA's artistic teams and build their artistic practice over a number of years. The fellows within the programme are Maren E. Bjørseth and Angelo Ormskerk.
The partnership between the Philip Loubser Foundation and ITA is focused on the long term. By giving talented directors working internationally the space to develop, we invest together in new perspectives, artistic innovation and the future of theatre.
