The actor Andries Snoek is a mainstay of the portrait gallery. Has anyone noticed that two of the portraits are almost identical? Snoek looks out over his left shoulder, with a faint smile. One was painted by the famous painter J.W. Pieneman; the other is a replica. An amusing detail: of Snoek's leading lady Johanna Ziesenis-Wattier, the theatre likewise holds a genuine Pieneman and a replica. The large painting of Andries Snoek in the stairwell is by Louis Moritz. Snoek is shown as the tragic hero Achilles.
