This portrait was unveiled in the portrait gallery in 1946 in honour of Elias van Praag, and with him the Jewish actors who were murdered during the Second World War. Louis Saalborn, an actor himself, portrayed him glancing sideways at the set behind him. Alongside his stage work, which included productions with Herman Heijermans, Van Praag worked a great deal in radio and taught at the drama school. He was forced to stop in 1941, and on 16 December 1942, two weeks after his arrival at the camp, Van Praag died at Mauthausen.
