The actor Emma Morel is around twenty-three years old in this portrait. By then she was a promising talent in theatre and film, having graduated from drama school cum laude. Little is known about the portrait, but the reviews in the Algemeen Handelsblad show that its maker, Lizzy Ansingh, was not receiving much praise at the time. Of the portrait it was written: “a small impression, done rather hastily — look at the hands!” Even so, in 1957 the actor Herman Roelvink called for this great actor's portrait to be given a place in the theatre.
