No collection like this would be complete without a set and costume designer. Francois Joseph Pfeiffer learned to draw and design from his father and grew into a romantic designer for the second Stadsschouwburg. Having first run his own theatre, where only moving scenery was shown, at the Stadsschouwburg he devoted himself above all to large sets for ballet and opera. Although many of his designs remained in use for years, a great many were lost in the fire of 1890.
