This classical portrait by Nicolaas Pieneman — son of J.W. Pieneman, who painted several of the portraits here — shows an actor ready to read his lines. And although the portrait may look old-fashioned, Veltman was the company director who first brought a play by Henrik Ibsen to the Dutch stage: Pillars of Society. He played the part of Consul Bernick himself.
