The sculpture of Netty Hamel, director of the Hoofdstadoperette, was presented to the Stadsschouwburg at a time when operetta drew large audiences but could expect little recognition or subsidy. The sculptor Theresia van der Pant, known for the equestrian statue of Queen Wilhelmina on the Rokin, gives us a serene and forceful image of the woman who took charge of the large operetta company after her husband's death.
