    We're looking for you

    All-round Stage Technician / Fly System Operator (BMT) - fulltime

    Do you see technical challenges as opportunities, and do you want to put your knowledge and expertise to work on our productions? Then we’re looking for you!

    Maybe you’re the colleague who brings enthusiasm and initiative to our team. Whatever your background, if you recognise yourself in this description, we’d love to hear from you.

    © Fee Golin

    What will you be doing?

    ITA’s Stage Technology department is a large, professional and very experienced team of technical specialists and crew. We work on our own productions and for companies performing at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.

    As an All-round Stage Technician / Fly System Operator, you prepare performances in the areas of rigging, hoisting and scene changes. You play a key role in both the artistic execution and the safety on stage. You review the hanging plot and come up with solutions for sometimes complex fly system movements. You help build and install our own productions as well as those of visiting companies.

    When a malfunction happens, you stay calm and keep communication clear. You find solutions quickly and with care. You also identify and report problems with the fly system or its control software.

    Besides operating, you help with set-ups in the auditoriums, studios and foyers. You also support colleagues from the other disciplines that come together on stage, such as lighting, sound and video.

    What do you bring?

    We’re looking for someone who:

    holds a VBT-B certificate, or is willing to obtain one within an agreed period
    has knowledge of the TNM control system (an advantage, not a requirement)
    works safely and actively contributes to a safe working environment
    is available to work irregular hours, such as evenings and weekends

    Not sure you meet every requirement? Apply anyway. We’re curious to hear your story.

    What do we offer?

    • An inspiring workplace in the heart of Amsterdam, where technology and the performing arts meet every day
    • A salary in scale V, from €2,897 to €4,221 gross per month for a full-time position, under the Collective Labour Agreement for Theatre and Dance (cao Toneel en Dans)
    • 27 days of annual leave plus 12 extra days off per year for a full-time position
    • A varied technical role with experienced colleagues, challenging productions and plenty of room to grow;
    • Free access to ITA performances;
    • A personal training budget and career development hours to keep building your skills.

    Competency-based question

    We want to assess everyone fairly and equally. That’s why we select on competencies, to keep the influence of unconscious bias as small as possible. All candidates for this role answer the same competency question using the STARR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result, Reflection).

    The question:

    Describe a situation during a technical production where you had to solve a problem under time pressure. What was your role, what steps did you take, and what was the result?

    Apply in 3 steps

    • Write a short motivation
    • Upload your CV
    • Answer the competency-based question

    You can apply until 2 November 2026 via the link below.

    Please note that interviews are scheduled for the week of 9 November 2026.

    Do you have a question about this vacancy? Please contact Valentijn Berkhout, Technical Coordinator, at valentijn.berkhout@ita.nl.
