Thijs van Vuure

Thijs van Vuure studied biology and philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam). After his master's in biology he studied instrumental performance and music composition at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Utrecht) and fine art at the Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam).

In recent years Thijs has specialised in composition, arrangement, sound design and musical direction for theatre, and he performs regularly with varying instruments and in varying styles, depending on the concept and the context of the production. Alongside this he makes projects that centre on art, philosophy and science and their mutual influences. Among other things, he creates site-specific performances and installations as part of Collectief Walden, an interdisciplinary collective that performs nationally and internationally.

Thijs is attached to ITA as music adviser. He has previously composed music for the productions The Hours (2021), Penthesilea (2023), Prima Facie (2023), The Laws (2024), Giovanni's Room (2025), The Wall (2025) and Time for Joy (2025). 

In the 26/27 season he is composing the music for The Copenhagen Trilogy.
