For the first time in the Netherlands and Belgium, Wunderbaum and NTGent present a translated cycle by the German-Swiss author Sibylle Berg. Mensen met problemen (People with Problems) follows the life of a woman and her friends across four parts, each capturing a different stage of their lives.
Mensen met problemen
They sell homemade drugs online, are constantly connected across digital platforms, date, have empty sex, and cry in bathroom stalls. Then they are no longer so young. They have children and long for life in the countryside. Their bodies begin to protest, as do their teenagers. Friendships and careers fall apart. Even nature disappoints.
Mensen met problemen is a powerful and unsettling account of lives in search of change. A relentless attempt to make things different and better. An escape into nature, crime, love, another planet, even an act of terrorism. What is worth fighting for? How much are we willing to sacrifice? And what, if anything, can still be saved?
About the creatives
For Mensen met problemen, the Belgian city theatre NTGent and the Dutch creative collective Wunderbaum are joining forces. Long-standing members of the collective, Maartje Remmers and Wine Dierickx, take to the stage alongside actors Bavo Buys and Laura De Geest. For Koen Tachelet, this new production marks a joyful return to NTGent, where he served as chief dramaturg between 2005 and 2010.
