Vondels Angels
In Vondel’s Angels, Sarah Moeremans and Joachim Robbrecht descend into hell with the full ensemble, armed with helmets and headlamps. From the fire, they retrieve the banished angels from Vondel’s Lucifer. They were cast out for rebelling against God’s decision to place humankind above them.
Four centuries later, humanity seems to have once again abandoned its responsibility. With fiery language, sharp questions and dark humour, the angels reclaim their position against God, morality and human failure. The result is an energetic performance in which myth and contemporary reality collide.
About the creatives
Sarah Moeremans and Joachim Robbrecht collaborate on a distinctive re-reading of classical repertoire. Their work often starts from existing texts, which they dismantle and reposition within a contemporary context. Vondel’s Angels fits within this approach, combining satire, philosophical inquiry and playful theatricality.
