Joop Admiraal Fonds

Your legacy helps give theatre a future

You can probably still remember the first time you were carried away by a story during a theatre performance and left the room totally in awe. Everyone has had a similar experience, which has enriched their life, brought new perspectives, or provided comfort. If you wish to help future generations to have the same experience, consider including Internationaal Theater Amsterdam in your will through the Joop Admiraal Fonds.

This fund is specifically for bequests to ITA. By donating to this fund, you will contribute to the future of a world-renowned ensemble of actors and to a theatre that is one of the figureheads of the Dutch performing arts scene.

Our theatre: where stories that matter are told

Every year, many enthusiasts enjoy the leading theatre and dance performances that ITA creates and programs. Our 125-year-old listed building on Leidseplein is home to our own international repertoire company, the ITA Ensemble, as well as to many other leading performing artists, such as theatre and dance companies from home and abroad. We are a theatre with productions for all ages, and an Academy for directing and theatre talent. We are a space that exudes openness, with room for debate, and where stories are told to inspire.

The ITA Ensemble (formerly Toneelgroep Amsterdam) has been made up of the best actors and actresses in the Netherlands for over 30 years. However obvious it may seem, it is actually unique to have a diverse acting ensemble of world renown which, together with a team of leading directors, plays on stages both in Amsterdam and across the world.

We want to ensure that these performances and everything surrounding them remain available for future generations. By including the Joop Admiraal Fund in your will, you can help make this possible.

Joop Admiraal

'I think the narcissistic thing is that you
walk onto the stage, the knowledge that
people will watch you. That is the reason
you become an actor. You learn from it,
it makes you better. I think
that I will keep acting until my death.'

— Joop Admiraal
Excerpt from interview in Het Gebeuren, December 2, 1989

You may have already seen his portrait in the gallery in the theatre: Joop Admiraal. This exceptional performing artist (1937-2006) – who was also part of the permanent ensemble – could tell stories and inspire people like no other. He inspired many of the current actresses and actors of the ITA Ensemble. He lives on in our theatre to this day.

Joop Admiraal Fonds

If you include the Joop Admiraal Fonds in your will, you will help to pass on the theatre that you have enjoyed so much to future generations. The Joop Admiraal Fonds is a continuity fund. We will not spend your inheritance or legacy all at once, but spread it over four years, meaning that you will be supporting theatre and dance for several years to come.

Your decision

You can decide how your legacy will be spent; whether it be put towards education and talent development, specific productions, or preservation of the listed building. You can support one or more of the following goals:

  1. International Theater Amsterdam in general: you contribute to all activities;
  2. Our ensemble and the production of our own pieces;
  3. National and international programming;
  4. ITA Academy (talent development and education);
  5. Preservation of our listed building.

Advisory Board
The Joop Admiraal Fonds has an Advisory Board that ensures that the amounts received are spent on the desired goals. A maximum of 25% of the total amount received is spent annually. Spreading your estate over several years helps guarantee the continuity of ITA.

Your personal wishes

Would you like to contribute to the future of leading theatre through the Joop Admiraal Fonds? Together, we can map out your wishes: what exactly do you want to support and how? We would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you. Our theatre employs staff with extensive experience in this field. We also work with external specialists such as notaries and estate planners who can support you.

Inheritance or legacy?

Together with your notary, you can determine what form your inheritance will take. You can appoint ITA as a co-heir or heir, in addition to (for example) your children, family members, friends and/or other charities. You can also donate a fixed amount of money to ITA: a legacy. A legacy is a gift described in your will, and can either be a specific amount or percentage of your estate. You can also draw up a legacy deed as a supplement to your will or to use if you do not have a will.

Internationaal Theater Amsterdam is exempt from tax on all acquisitions from donations and testamentary provisions. This means that no gift and inheritance tax is levied on it. ITA is a so-called Public Benefit Organization (ANBI) and is considered a Cultural Charity by the Tax Authorities.

Culture is an important part of my life. That is why I have been supporting ITA for years. It enriches my view of our society. I think it is important, especially at this time, that the future generation also has the opportunity to take note of the opportunities that culture offers to enrich their lives. That is why I included the Joop Admiraal Fonds in my will; to continue to contribute after my death to an ideal that should be dear to all of us.
