Bruce Norris wrote Clybourne Park as a spin-off of A Raisin in the Sun, the Broadway classic by Lorraine Hansberry from 1959. It's a play about racial tensions and gentrification. In the Clybourne Park district in Chicago, a black family buys a house for little money, the first black family in the white neighbourhood. The neighbours are afraid that the neighbourhood will become uninhabitable. Years later, Steve and Lindsey also buy a house there, now for a hefty amount. They are the first white family in a black neighbourhood. Neighbours are concerned: before you know it, the neighbourhood will become unaffordable.

The Black Archives

Mitchell Esajas, mede-oprichter en voorzitter van New Urban Collective en mede-initiatiefnemer van The Black Archives verzorgt met collega Wouter Pocorni (architect, bouwkundige en Bijlmerbeliever 3.0) de inhoudelijke inleidingen bij de voorstelling.
"Wat weinig mensen weten is dat de gemeente Amsterdam in de jaren zeventig hele wijken sloot voor niet-witte Nederlanders. Hoewel Surinamers Nederlandse staatsburgers waren, konden ze niet wonen waar ze wilden."
Lunchen met Mitchell Esajas
Voor Lunchen met… nodigen we een acteur, danser of maker (of dit keer een bedrijfswetenschapper/antropoloog) uit voor een lunch en een goed gesprek in de Café | Brasserie van Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.
Mitchell Esajas (1988) is mede-oprichter en voorzitter van New Urban Collective, een netwerk van studenten en young professionals van diverse achtergronden. Ook is hij mede-initiatiefnemer van The Black Archives. Esajas verzorgt met collega’s de inhoudelijke inleidingen bij de voorstelling Clybourne Park van Well Made Productions, die gaat over gentrificatie en racisme. Als lunch neemt hij een cappuccino en een broodje makreelsalade.
