Silenzio
That silence can be deafening is something we all experience in these ominous times. That silence can radiate menace or serenity. When we don't know what awaits us, we are vulnerable. How silence can be transformed into music - into thunderous clusters, harmonies and melodies emerging from nowhere - is audible in the music for cello and accordion. How silence translates into movement - continuous, eruptive, directly emotional or visually complex - is shown by LeineRoebana's dancers.
SILENZIO makes the fragility of silence palpable.

LeineRoebana
LeineRoebana, the dance company of choreographers Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana, occupies a place of its own in the Dutch and international dance world thanks to its unique, idiosyncratic dance language and working methods. The company is known for its exciting physical dance idiom and the central role of live performed music in its work. LeineRoebana's productions surprise with extraordinary interweaving of contemporary dance, text, design and the most diverse musical timbres. In the choreographies, artists from different cultures, disciplines and backgrounds meet and relate to the world around us. For instance, in their successful productions GhostTrack and LIGHT, they linked contemporary dance with gamelan music and musicians from Indonesia.-|-
Music has an equal place in the work. Music and dance together form one whole. One breath. A change in the dance affects the music and vice versa. A musical thought continues in movement. A dance theme becomes music. In the company's layered productions, both dancers and musicians move. LeineRoebana has worked with composers such as Tan Dun, Iwan Gunawan and Kate Moore and musicians such as violinist Liza Ferschtman, guitarist Wiek Hijmans and singer Elisabeth Hetherington. Besides productions for the theatre, LeineRoebana creates performances at special locations such as LOST INTIMACY in a former monastery or industrial building or location performances among the greenery at music festival Wonderfeel and Oerol.
