Surrounded by the icons of Dutch theatre

The Koninklijke Foyer is steeped in the history of Dutch theatre. On the walls hang portraits of actors who have left a lasting impression on the theatre landscape. Above the bar, for instance, hangs the portrait of Ziesenis-Wattier, once described by Napoleon as the greatest tragédienne in Europe. On the other side, Theo Mann-Bouwmeester looks out across the room. Her name lives on in the Theo d’Or, the annual prize for the best leading role in Dutch theatre.
