Thanks to its large, flat and open stage floor, almost anything is possible in the Rabozaal. This contemporary auditorium combines the technical capabilities of a modern black box with the intimacy of a theatre. In the Rabozaal, there is no such thing as a bad seat: the sightlines in this relatively new auditorium are excellent and the facilities are thoroughly up to date.

The back wall of the stage is a special feature: it can be opened, letting daylight flood in through the glass wall so the atmosphere changes throughout the day.

A flexible black box

One wish was central to the design in 2007: a flexible black box and flat-floor theatre to complement the monumental Grote Zaal. The collaboration between Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, Toneelgroep Amsterdam and the Melkweg produced a contemporary auditorium that fully meets the needs of today's makers, audiences and organisers. The Rabozaal is now a much-loved auditorium for national and international dance companies, and a large proportion of ITA Productions have their premiere here. And during ADE the auditorium becomes a temple of dance.

Brasserie

Available for exclusive hire when there are no shows

Onder een sierlijke kroonluchter met bloemvormen staan in de Brasserie veel mensen met een drankje rond de bar, in roze en paars licht; achterin draait een draaideur en rechts hangt een rood bordje 'Bierkenners vragen Grolsch'.

Studio

Multifunctional studio

In de Studio spreekt een vrouw met lang blond haar, in een zwarte trui en een spijkerbroek, met gebarende handen een volle zaal op banken toe; achter haar toont een groot scherm 'Giovanni's Room', met 'ITA Ensemble' eronder.

Marnixbordes

An intimate space with richly decorated walls

Nieuwe Foyer

A spacious, light and modern foyer

In de Nieuwe Foyer staan rijen witte stoelen voor een beeldscherm op een standaard, tegen een wand vol grote foto's van spelers in warme oranje tinten, onder een donker plafond met oranje lichtlijnen.

Pleinfoyer

A light-filled foyer with impressive historic and contemporary art

De lege Pleinfoyer heeft perzikkleurige wanden, een cassetteplafond met kleurrijk beschilderde vlakken en kristallen kroonluchters, hoge ramen met donkerblauwe fluwelen gordijnen en achterin een lange witte bar onder een glas-in-loodraam.

Gijsbrechtbordes

Where centuries of theatre history come together

Een lange tafel op het Gijsbrechtbordes is gedekt met een wit tafellaken, wijnglazen, goudkleurig bestek, kaarsen en kleine vaasjes met paarse en witte bloemen, met goudkleurige stoelen ernaast en een groot wandtapijt op de achtergrond.
