The Bookshop is on the ground floor of Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, adjoining De Brasserie, on the Leidseplein. With its own entrance, French doors opening onto the city and an intimate atmosphere, this is a place where people come together to exchange ideas, meet one another and discover new perspectives. The space has a small stage, but it is also very well suited to exhibitions and small, informal presentations.

Alongside ITA's own programming, The Bookshop is available for exclusive hire for all kinds of gatherings. A bonus: the space directly adjoins the Stadsschouwburg's De Brasserie.

In the distant past, The Bookshop was the entrance for visitors on a modest budget. Through this entrance they reached the standing places right at the top of the Main Auditorium (Grote Zaal), while visitors in the more expensive seats used other entrances.

Years later a famous theatre bookshop stood on this spot, and that is where The Bookshop takes its name from. Today The Bookshop is ITA's cultural living room; a place for experiment, reflection and encounter. Makers, performers and visitors come together here for programmes that give room to new ideas and different perspectives. It is also a place where we regularly reflect on the history of the building.
